arrival at Mijas you will see the Casa Constitutional which is an impressive white building. This will give you a taste of the how well
kept Mijas is.
Many artists and writers have made Mijas their home, enjoying the benefits of an excellent all year round climate. Mijas Pueblo is hugely popular with tourists but has retained much of its traditional Andalucian way of life.
Donkey Rides
You
will have the chance to ride on a donkey-taxis which line the central
plaza, or if that's too adventurous, to take one of the carriages around
the beautiful whitewashed town on the
traditional cobbled streets.
The craft shops have some affordable paintings and prints by acclaimed local artists, such as Don Clarke and Michele Lehmann. There are plenty of opportunities to aquire wonderful hand made pottery and other local items which would make marvellous holiday mementos.
Hermitage of El Puerto
One of the most interesting buildings in Mijas is the hermitage of El Puerto
which overlooks the village high on the hillside. Take a donkey ride up there
for spectacular views. A variety of churches and other monuments give insight into
Mijas' past through Roman, Moorish and
Spanish times. The bullring in Mijas
is oval and small. It is one of the country's few oval bullrings. There is an
interesting bullfighting museum in the grounds of the bullring..
The shrine of the Virgin of the Rock holds the image of the patroness of Mijas, the Virgin of the Rock. You can sit to have a cold drink or a snack and enjoy the panoramic views at a cafe just in front of the shrine.
El carromato de Max
There
is a museum of miniatures called "El carromato de Max" which is one of the most important of its kind
in the world. There are works
from over 50 countries exhibited. See Abraham Lincoln on a pinhead, a shrunken
head and the Last Supper on a grain of rice. Truly amazing!
Iglesia de la Inmaculada Concepcion

Iglesia de la Inmaculada Concepcion is located in the Plaza de la Constitucion

built in mudejar style in
1541 During restoration
works in 1991 a series of Frescos of the apostles were discovered there dating
